Landscaping

Well, we have almost come to the end of our next stage in landscaping our yard. Because of the drainage problems after a hard rain in our front yard, we took a more drastic approach. I remembered that the builder had installed a pipe under our driveway that connected the two sides of the yard. I went searching for this pipe and found it about 18" down. So the work began to cut a trench across our front yard. Unfortunately, I have no documentation that I did all the work, so you will have to take my word that I did the physical labor. Once the trench was cut, Barb and I shot elevations to make sure that the water would flow. After a number of hard rains, we determined that the trench was working. So, then the work to line the trench with river rocks began. Approximately 160' and 7500 pounds of rocks later, our trench was ready for some rain. And then the rains came. The first two pictures are taken from the driveway. The next two are taken from our little bridge.

Of course when you build a running stream between your house and the road, you must have a place to cross the stream. So, we installed a little walking path with a bridge.

Once the front was finished, I had to have a path from the backyard to the 14th green. So I found some abandoned brick and built me a path. This did not take quite as much as the river rock, but I had to haul the 450bricks from their original site about 300 yards away to their final location. It sounds easier than it was as I could only haul 50 bricks at a time. But the end result was satisfying.

We have also started our orchard, but I have no pictures at this time. We planted a key lime tree and a lemon tree in the backyard. When we go to New Orleans for Barbara's 40 high school reunion, we hope to get a satsuma tree.
