Progress - poco a poco

When we stopped in Hattiesburg on the way back to McComb from Knoxville on Wednesday, we found the insulation almost complete. This is the wall where the stove and refrigerator will be. Behind it is the stairs to the bonus room. It is harder to see the layout now with the walls closed off. The inspection was passed and sheetrocking should begin today.
Another view of the insulation. The front door is on the right of the photo. The photo is taken looking into the front guest bedroom.

Below is our mystery hole. Why the plumbers made a hole that size for this little pipe is a mystery to us. Our builder assures us the plumber knows what he is doing. We are not totally convinced. But we will have a warranty on the house so any problems that appear he will have to fix. So far, we have not been impressed by his way of doing business.

Home Again

Sorry for the lack of new posts lately. Several reasons for that. Things have been a bit slower on the house. And we went to Knoxville to see Joanna while she was on Spring Break. We had a good trip and enjoyed seeing Jo and Dave and of course, meeting Echo for the first time. We went with them to the first dog training class of the intermediate session. It was good to get away from the construction headaches for a while and relax. We ate some good food but didn't do much running around. The weather turned cold and wet and depressing. I did come back to MS with a project - I volunteered to make the curtains for the living room. Nothing fancy but I am excited about the fabric Jo and Dave chose and think it will make a distinctive addition to their decorating scheme. Now if I just don't cut it wrong...

The Bricks are Here!

We were at the house waiting for the plumber to show up - That was a lesson in patience - and to our surprise a load of our brick was delivered. The driver said there are 2 more loads to go! Here is a website Columbus Brick for you to see a house made of the brick we chose. It is NOT our house like ours just an illustration of the color.

Inside, there is nothing new. The plumbers are supposed to start in the next few days. We will be in Hattiesburg again tomorrow and on Friday.

Back to posting again

Well, we are back from our week-long trip to Florida to visit Tom's parents. They are well and looking forward to the warmer weather. And to fewer people in their area after the snowbirds go back home again. This view is from the living room through the space where the French doors will go, through the screened-in porch area, the deck and through the trees to the 14th green. The flag is a bit difficult to see in this photo but it is there all right.

This is the smaller AC/heater unit that will handle the 2 extra bedrooms. In the Mississippi summer heat and humidity the AC is welcome indeed.

A view of the raw materials for building the ductwork for the AC/heater. Tom had the floors all swept and clean before they arrived. Didn't take long for it to get all cluttered again...

The big unit on its side and the smaller one for the bonus room.

Another view of the ductwork heading throughout the attic. Since the 'innards' are what are being worked on now - most important but not as interesting - there isn't a lot to see. The painter is supposed to come once the front porch area has all the trim finished. The front door is laying in the garage and will probably be installed next week. The plumber also comes next week to do his thing. And the brick should be laid soon. Things move ahead. We are beginning our 8th month in the US. I had hoped that we would be getting close to moving in around this time. But it looks more like it will be closer to a year before we are settled again. But we are enjoying the time to reconnect with family and to be able to pick up and go pretty much when the mood strikes.
